Softball Recap: South Ripley Raiders vs. Austin Eagles

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Batesville, South Ripley was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They put the hurt on the Austin Eagles with a sharp 11-1 win. For South Ripley, this counts as revenge for the 30-20 loss Austin walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

Ellie Combs tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Lillyana Guerra and Brooklyn Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Guerra scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Brown scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Anna Block, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

The victory got South Ripley back to even at 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Ripley will take on Oldenburg Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Austin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Borden at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Austin is out to stop a ten-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
