Softball Game Preview: Cherokee Chiefs vs. Greeneville Greene Devils

Cherokee is 0-10 against Greeneville since April of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Chiefs will host the Greene Devils at 5:30 p.m.

On Friday, Cherokee came up short against Claiborne and fell 7-4.

Meanwhile, Greeneville had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Huskies.

Brynlee Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Jamie Jackson tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaley Garland, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Brooke Parsley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Greeneville's victory bumped their record up to 10-12-1. As for Cherokee, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Cherokee suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Greeneville in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Chiefs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
