Recap: Gaston Christian Eagles vs. Hickory Grove Christian Lions
The Gaston Christian Eagles won against the Hickory Grove Christian Lions on Tuesday with 85 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Everything went Gaston Christian's way against Hickory Grove Christian as Gaston Christian made off with a 85-60 victory. Given Gaston Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Hickory Grove Christian is ranked 315th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Makoi Mabor Marier, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Gaston Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Newman, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 10 assists.
Despite the loss, Hickory Grove Christian still got an impressive performance from Brent Banks, who scored 27 points along with 7 rebounds. The game was Banks' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tristan Nelson, who scored 15 points.
The last time Gaston Christian lost on the road was back back in November. Having now won four straight away matches, they've pushed their record up to 5-5. As for Hickory Grove Christian, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Gaston Christian will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Concord Academy at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Concord Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday. As for Hickory Grove Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Gaston Day at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Gaston Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday.
