Basketball Recap: Doddridge County Starts Season with Win Against Gilmer County

Doddridge County took care of business in their home opener on Thursday (and then some). They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Gilmer County Titans 71-43. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 57-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the Titans cut but never quite recovered from.

Jerod Trent was the offensive standout of the match as he went 6 for 8 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Solomon, who went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points.

Doddridge County was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Gilmer County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jacob Mick, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. Mick's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachariah Wine, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Gilmer County dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Doddridge County and South Harrison will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Gilmer County, they will head out to face off against Calhoun at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
