Basketball Recap: New Albany Takes a Loss

New Albany suffered their closest loss since November 25, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the South Pontotoc Cougars by a score of 52-49. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 66-62.

Despite the loss, New Albany still got an impressive performance from Issac Gilbert, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Decorion Hardin was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points.

New Albany's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 17-7. As for South Pontotoc, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season.

New Albany has already played their next game, a 92-89 victory against Ingomar on the 30th. As for South Pontotoc, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 39-30 win against Okolona on the 30th.
