Basketball Game Preview: Edwards County Lions vs. Woodlawn Cardinals

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Lions duke it out with the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Edwards County against Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine as the team secured a 66-29 victory. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 25 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Woodlawn had no trouble coming through when it counted. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Webber 49-46. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cardinals have posted since January 13, 2024.

Woodlawn's win came from a few key players Edwards County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Andrea Kibler, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Skinner, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.

Woodlawn has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.6 points over those games. As for Edwards County, their win bumped their record up to 15-8.
