Baseball Recap: Lawrenceville Finds Home Field Redemption Against Marshall

There's no place like home for Lawrenceville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Marshall Lions on Thursday. Considering the Indians have won three contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Emery Ivers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Lawrenceville is undefeated when Ivers posts eight or more strikeouts, but 2-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Eli Vennard was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Moorehead, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Lawrenceville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marshall only posted an OBP of .259.

With the victory, Lawrenceville broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-4. As for Marshall, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Looking ahead, Lawrenceville will challenge Mt. Carmel at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Aces have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Marshall, they will host Newton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
