Football Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Gruver's Winning Streak

If Gruver was feeling good fresh off their 54-6 takedown of River Road last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Greyhounds took a 40-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stratford Elks on Friday. The matchup marked the Greyhounds' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Leading Stratford to victory were Alejandro Casas and Darius Jones. Casas rushed for 107 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries, while Jones rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Jones got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 66 yards.

Gruver moved to 4-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Stratford, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Coincidentally, Gruver and Stratford will both be playing Bovina the next time they take the field. The Greyhounds will host the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Elks will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
