Softball Recap: West Charlotte Triumphs

West Charlotte's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Chambers Cougars. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won eight in a row.

Enijah Gary made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor B, who went 2-for-3 with seven stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Victelle M, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs.

West Charlotte's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Chambers, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Charlotte will welcome North Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.41 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Chambers, they will face off against Mallard Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
