Baseball Game Preview: Thompson Valley Eagles vs. Loveland Red Wolves

The Thompson Valley Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Loveland Red Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Thompson Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Thompson Valley needed a bit of extra time to put away Timnath. They came out on top against the Cubs by a score of 6-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Thompson Valley got a great performance from Malachi Dougherty as he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Dougherty a new career-high.

At the plate, Garet Hendrickson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Loveland came up short against Fort Collins on Wednesday, falling 13-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Red Wolves have suffered against the Lambkins since April 21, 2016.

Loveland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karter Butler, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Loveland's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Thompson Valley, their record is now 7-8.

Loveland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Thompson Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. It's a different story for Loveland, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Thompson Valley's hitters?

Thompson Valley couldn't quite finish off Loveland in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
