Football Recap: Pompano Beach Starts Season with Victory Against Marathon

Pompano Beach took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They took down the Marathon Dolphins 48-33. This was payback for the Golden Tornadoes, who suffered a 39-30 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Pompano Beach's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ayden Jaouhar led the charge by picking up 130 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while also rushing for 78 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Those 130 receiving yards gave Jaouhar a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was Matthew Haydar, who threw for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Despite the loss, Marathon still got an impressive performance from Matthew Machado, who rushed for 227 yards and four scores on only 12 carries. Machado's longest rush was for an impressive 66 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Looking ahead, Pompano Beach is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Pine Crest at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Marathon, they will welcome IMG Academy State at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
