Recap: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. Santana Sultans
The Mount Miguel Matadors extended their postseason success on Friday against the Santana Sultans. They breezed by the Sultans on the road to the tune of 37-6. The result was nothing new for Mount Miguel, who have now won 11 matches by 26 points or more so far this season.
Leading Mount Miguel to victory were Matthew Barton and Zane Rottier. Barton rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, while Rottier rushed for 170 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Parris Vernon also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
The win was the seventh in a row for Mount Miguel, bringing their record for this year to 11-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Rancho Buena Vista and 3-9 Escondido (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33% over those games). As for Santana, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
Mount Miguel will square off against Chula Vista at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Chula Vista is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games. Santana does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
