Baseball Game Preview: China Spring Cougars vs. Calallen Wildcats

For the second straight game, China Spring will face off against Calallen. The Cougars will square off against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (China Spring 2.8, Calallen 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

China Spring heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Friday. They fell just short of Calallen by a score of 9-7. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their 25-game winning streak.

For Calallen's part, Cody Andrade looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Andrade has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 20 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Calallen got a massive performance out of Reese Rusher, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Rusher a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dallin DeBellas, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

The victory was the seventh in a row for Calallen, bringing their record up to 33-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for China Spring, their loss dropped their record down to 35-5.
