Baseball Recap: Lorain Comes Up Short

Lorain couldn't beat Strongsville on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the sixth inning. The Titans fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 7-6. The Titans' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Ethan Leyva was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Leyva wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noah Bennett, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Another was Jacob Rivera, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Lorain's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15-1. As for Strongsville, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coming up, Lorain will venture away from home to square off against Clearview at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Clippers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.09 runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Strongsville, they will welcome St. Edward at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
