Recap: Lely Trojans vs. Barron Collier Cougars
The Lely Trojans pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 74-55 bruising from Barron Collier. While losing is never fun, Lely can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 348th, while Barron Collier is ranked 106th).
Lely's loss came despite strong showings from Lovence Valcin and Anthony Deibis-Silverstein. Valcin scored 16 points along with 6 rebounds, while Deibis-Silverstein scored 11 points along with 3 steals. The match was Valcin's third in a row with at least ten points. Richard Obas was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Spencer Clayton was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with 6 assists and 5 steals for Barron Collier. That makes it three consecutive games in which Clayton has scored at least 25% of Barron Collier's points. Another player making a difference was Nick Degnan, who scored 20 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Lely and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Barron Collier, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lely will face off against Lehigh at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Barron Collier, they will head out on the road to face off against Naples at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Naples is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
