Basketball Recap: Hillcrest Christian Snags Tenth Victory in Last 12 Games

Hillcrest Christian had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Regents Lions on Tuesday, sneaking past 33-31. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Lions are ranked 261st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hillcrest Christian had a senior duo take command as Jaivyn Carter dropped a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds and Jordan Johnson posted 11 points in addition to seven boards and four blocks. Johnson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last six games he's played.

Hillcrest Christian has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points over those games. As for Regents, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Hillcrest Christian will face off against Tunica Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Tunica Academy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Hillcrest Christian will come in with eight straight wins. Regents does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
