Softball Game Preview: Mendez Jaguars vs. Robert F. Kennedy Community Bobcats

Mendez is a perfect 9-0 against Robert F. Kennedy Community since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Mendez Jaguars face off against Robert F. Kennedy Community Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mendez has three straight wins, Robert F. Kennedy Community has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Thursday, Mendez got the win against Contreras by a conclusive 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won three games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Summer Mu?oz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yvette De Los Santos, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Luna Rubio, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Mendez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Robert F. Kennedy Community lost 17-1 to Roybal on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Bobcats have lost by exactly 16 runs.

Mendez's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.3 runs over those games. As for Robert F. Kennedy Community, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything went Mendez's way against Robert F. Kennedy Community in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Mendez made off with a 21-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mendez since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
