Baseball Game Preview: Union Rockets vs. Randolph Southern Rebels

Union is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Saturday. They are taking a road trip to square off against the Randolph Southern Rebels at 11:00 a.m. Union's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four matchups, but Saturday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

Union took a 18-run defeat the last time they faced off against Purdue Broad Ripple, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rockets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Lynx on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Randolph Southern can bid farewell to their 15-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They came out on top against Union City by a score of 7-4.

Jackson Wolfal and Bryson Grimes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Wolfal pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Grimes struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Wolfal got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one double, while Grimes went 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most runs Wolfal has posted since back in April.

Union's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Randolph Southern, their record is now 2-15.

Union suffered a grim 22-0 defeat to Randolph Southern in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
