Basketball Recap: Cheylin Cougars vs. Golden Plains Bulldogs
Make it five blowout wins for the Cheylin Cougars this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Golden Plains 67-34 on the road. Given Cheylin's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 335th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Cheylin to victory were Logan McCarty and Pablo Bermudez. McCarty scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and six assists, while Bermudez scored 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals. McCarty hasn't dropped below two steals for 12 straight games. Victor Hernandez was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Golden Plains' loss came despite strong showings from Josh Rath and Dylan Wark. Rath scored 18 points, while Wark scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rath has scored all season.
Golden Plains struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cheylin is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Golden Plains, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.
Cheylin will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans on Friday. As for Golden Plains, they will square off against the Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Triplains/Brewster is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
