Football Recap: Cypress Lake's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Cypress Lake extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 4-2. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Estero Wildcats, sneaking past 25-23. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Adrian Burdette was a one-man wrecking crew as he picked up 102 receiving yards and two TDs.

Cypress Lake's run defense was locked in: Estero could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Mason Kurtz for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Cypress Lake; they were averaging 3.7yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 0.8 per game.

Cypress Lake's defense didn't let Maddox Stewart, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Daniel Johnson and Kurtz, who racked up all six sacks between them.

As for Estero, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3. They gained 171 more yards on the day, but it was Cypress Lake that made the best use of them.

Estero lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Stewart, who threw for 262 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 36 yards and one score. Estero also got a significant boost from Townson Green, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 92 yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Cypress Lake will challenge South Fort Myers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Estero, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Lemon Bay at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th.
