Baseball Recap: Woonsocket Extends Winning Streak to 20

Woonsocket extended their winning streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Wednesday, bumping them up to 17-0. They blew past the Westerly Bulldogs 8-1. The Villa Novans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by six runs or more this season.

Patrick Munger made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Woonsocket let Juleus Perez and Jullian De Jesus run wild. Perez went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while De Jesus went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Perez has posted since back in April. Ty Chhourn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Westerly, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

On Westerly's side, they got a good showing from Matteo Hackett, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Westerly saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Gwaltney, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woonsocket will challenge North Smithfield at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Westerly, they will face off against Chariho at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
