Baseball Game Preview: Maize Eagles vs. Maize South Mavericks

For the second straight game, Maize will face off against Maize South. The Eagles will face off against the Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Maize is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

On Thursday, Maize sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Maize South.

Scotty Hadley was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other pitching news, Porter Newell tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.

Back at the plate, Drake Blasi was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Brodie Jarvis also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Maize South has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only two runs. As for Maize, their record is now 8-2.
