Basketball Recap: Cherokee Trail Finds Playoff Glory Versus Mountain Vista

It's playoff time, and Cherokee Trail had no trouble coming through when it counted. They claimed a resounding 73-39 win over the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Cherokee Trail can attribute much of their success to Delainey Miller, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards. What's more, Miller posted two blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Pelaez, who earned nine points.

Cherokee Trail was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They are 13-6 when they've passed the ball that well.

Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kennedy Spellman, who scored 17 points and five rebounds. That was a full 43.6% of Mountain Vista's points, marking the eighth time in a row Spellman has put up more than a third of the team's points. Kiarra Spellman was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Cherokee Trail's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points over those games. As for Mountain Vista, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-9.

Looking ahead, Cherokee Trail will venture away from home to challenge Highlands Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Highlands Ranch will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Cherokee Trail surely won't give up without a fight. Mountain Vista does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
