Preview: Monroe Golden Tornadoes vs. Thomasville Bulldogs
The Monroe Golden Tornadoes will be playing at home against the Thomasville Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Monroe will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
Even though Columbus scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, Monroe still came out on top. Monroe secured a 60-56 W over Columbus. Given Monroe's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Columbus is ranked 184th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Justin Burns continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquan Maddox, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Thomasville scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 81-60 margin over Brooks County. The score was close at the half, but Thomasville pulled away in the second half with 50 points.
Monroe's win bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Thomasville, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-12.
Everything came up roses for Monroe against Thomasville in their previous meeting on January 5th as the squad secured a 74-45 win. Does Monroe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Thomasville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
