Basketball Recap: Wheat Ridge Comes Up Short

Wheat Ridge won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They came up short against the Prairie View Thunderhawks, falling 85-65. The defeat continues a trend for the Farmers in their matchups with the Thunderhawks: they've now lost three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Wheat Ridge lost, don't look at Isaiah Rainalter. Despite the final result, he went 10 of 25 en route to 30 points. Those 30 points gave Rainalter a new career-high. Amir Nix was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wheat Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Javon Brewton, who shot 7-for-13 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine boards for Prairie View. Another player making a difference was Kehinde Ojowa, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 13 points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Wheat Ridge now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Prairie View, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Wheat Ridge has already played their next matchup, a 92-37 victory against Englewood on the 18th. As for Prairie View, they will host Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Legacy will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Prairie View surely won't give up without a fight.
