Baseball Game Preview: Tomahawk Hatchets vs. Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers

The Tomahawk Hatchets will face off against the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Things were looking good for Tomahawk after they put the first run on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Medford by a score of 5-4. The Hatchets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Wittenberg-Birnamwood came tearing into Monday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged out the Bears 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Chargers have posted since April 21st.

Chris Sippl tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits.

At the plate, Hudson Miller was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Hayden Miller was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Tomahawk, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
