Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for South Davidson

South Davidson made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Salisbury, but they still couldn't quite topple them. South Davidson blew past Salisbury 20-5 on Tuesday. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 10-3 victory the Hornets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Payton Cook made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, South Davidson got a massive performance out of Genesis Argote, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, Argote posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Harleigh Russell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

South Davidson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salisbury only posted an OBP of .267.

The win (which was South Davidson's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average this season. As for Salisbury, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

South Davidson didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 16-4 defeat against Leadership Academy on the 19th. As for Salisbury, they have also already played their next contest, an 18-0 win against Thomasville on the 19th.
