Recap: Denver Jewish Day Tigers vs. Lyons Lions
The Denver Jewish Day Tigers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 81-64 win over Lyons. Given Denver Jewish Day's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while Lyons is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Denver Jewish Day was led to victory by Solly Bielsky and Keenan Winnerman. Bielsky scored 26 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Winnerman scored 36 points along with five blocks and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Winnerman has scored all season. Lev Friedman was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Caleb Christiansen and Jake Lacrosse certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Christiansen scored 25 points along with six steals, while Lacrosse scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Lacrosse continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Payton Bolkovatz, who scored 12 points along with five assists and two steals.
Even though they lost, Lyons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver Jewish Day only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Denver Jewish Day pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.2 points per game. As for Lyons, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.
Denver Jewish Day won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Denver Waldorf at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Denver Waldorf focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Thursday. Lyons won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Union Colony Prep at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Union Colony Prep comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
