Recap: Belton Pirates vs. Winnetonka Griffins
The Belton Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to Winnetonka. While losing is never fun, Belton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 465th, while Winnetonka is ranked 132nd).
When it comes to explaining why Belton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kordell Williams. Despite the final result, he scored 29 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Williams scored a full 47.5% of Belton's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Cooper Shrum was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Belton bumped their record down to 1-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Winnetonka, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Belton will take on Smithville in a holiday battle at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday at. As for Winnetonka, they will head out on the road to face off against Pleasant Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
