The Wawasee Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Carroll Chargers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Wawasee has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wawasee is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Mishawaka on Thursday. They came up short against the Cavemen, falling 19-2. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Cavemen recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Audra Weaver was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Carroll never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against DeKalb as they made off with a 6-0 win. Considering the Chargers have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Emilia Garcia, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep DeKalb off the board. Garcia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tessa Patterson was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Kaelyn Kinsey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Carroll has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That lines up perfectly with their 12-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Wawasee, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Wawasee hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wawasee suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Carroll when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
