Football Recap: St. Mark's Falls Short Against Ranked Indian River

St. Mark faced Indian River in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Spartans took a hard 21-3 fall against the Indians. Having soared to a lofty 35 points in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.

Leading Indian River to victory were Davon Handy and Darnell Stokes Jr.. Handy rushed for 148 yards and one touchdown, while Stokes Jr. rushed for 43 yards and one TD. Those 148 rushing yards gave Handy a new career-high.

St. Mark's now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Indian River, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. St. Mark's will venture away from home to square off against Delaware Military Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans are facing the Seahawks at the right time seeing as the Seahawks are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Indian River, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Laurel at 7:00 p.m. on October 10.
