Basketball Recap: California City Comes Up Short

California City and Exeter squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but California City had to settle for second. They fell 61-48 to the Exeter Monarchs.

Despite the loss, California City saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cassius 'Hollywood' Brown went 10-for-24 en route to 20 points and four steals. The contest was Brown's seventh in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Avery 'Skywalker' Spears, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, California City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

California City's defeat dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Exeter, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-6.

California City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Exeter, they have already played their next game, a 45-41 loss against Granite Hills on the 21st.
