Preview: Willis Wildkats vs. Nimitz Cougars

The Willis Wildkats will take on the Nimitz Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Willis has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 579 points over their last ten games.

Even though Oak Ridge scored an imposing 35 points on Friday, Willis still came out on top. Willis strolled past Oak Ridge with points to spare, taking the game 49-35. Given Willis' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Oak Ridge is ranked 177th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Derek Lagway continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 303 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Lagway hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Jermaine Bishop jr, who picked up 83 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Nimitz unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by Dekaney on the road and fell 50-21. Nimitz has struggled against Dekaney recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Willis' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Cleveland and 1-9 Temple (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34% over those games). As for Nimitz, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.
