Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Crown Point's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

If Hammond Morton wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Crown Point, they should've done a better job of containing Ava Richie. The Crown Point Bulldogs enjoyed a cozy 67-49 victory over the Hammond Morton Governors on Wednesday thanks in part to Richie, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 20 points in addition to five assists and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last seven games she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Punak, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Despite the defeat, Hammond Morton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kylah KP Patterson dropped a double-double on 19 points and 19 boards. Another player making a difference was Dalanie Jones, who posted eight points and 11 rebounds.

Crown Point has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.1 points per game. As for Hammond Morton, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-2.

Crown Point wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 36-27 defeat against Lake Central on the 20th. As for Hammond Morton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 89-75 win against Thornton Fractional North on the 21st.
