Baseball Recap: Atascadero Comes Up Short

After flying high against Pioneer Valley last Tuesday, Atascadero came back down to earth. The Greyhounds fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. The Greyhounds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 11-2.

Weston Witt was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Witt was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Witt wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zach Savino, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Atascadero dropped their record down to 8-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Pioneer Valley, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Atascadero will challenge Lompoc at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Pioneer Valley, they will square off against Morro Bay at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
