Devon Marion was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kevin Till, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landen Jenkins, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI.

Swansboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dixon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over West Carteret on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since March 12th.

Chris Tesgle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has become a key player for Dixon: the team is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Dixon's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Chris Guslander, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Swansboro's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Dixon, their record is now 6-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Swansboro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dixon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Swansboro came out on top in a nail-biter against Dixon when the teams last played last Tuesday, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
