Football Recap: Ruidoso Warriors vs. Hatch Valley Bears
The matchup between Ruidoso and Hatch Valley on Friday hardly resembled the 22-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Ruidoso Warriors took a 32-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hatch Valley Bears. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2019.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mason Fikany, who rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 39 receiving yards. Joel Ortega was another key receiver, picking up 94 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Ruidoso dropped their record down to 1-6 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Hatch Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ruidoso will face off against New Mexico Military Institute at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hatch Valley, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Dexter at 7:00 p.m. on October 25th.
