Softball Game Preview: Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves vs. Lakewood Rangers

The Cuyahoga Heights Red Wolves will head out to challenge the Lakewood Rangers at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cuyahoga Heights has four straight wins, Lakewood has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Cuyahoga Heights is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Our Lady of the Elms as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The Red Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

Skylar Sane looked comfortable as she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cuyahoga Heights let Sophia Meklemburg and Addison Bohning run wild. Meklemburg got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Bohning went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Meklemburg has posted since back in April. Camryn Barnes was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Lakewood came up short against Magnificat on Tuesday and fell 5-1.

Cuyahoga Heights' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Lakewood, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
