Basketball Recap: Northland Christian's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

It was a good run, but Northland Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost to the St. Francis Episcopal Wolves on the road by a 78-60 margin. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while the Wolves are ranked 40th).

Northland Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kameron McKnight, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 19 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. McKnight's afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Andon Newton was another key player, going 7 for 14 en route to 17 points and three steals.

St. Francis Episcopal's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nigel Walls led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Walls is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted three or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Christian Hodge, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Northland Christian's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 21-4. As for St. Francis Episcopal, they pushed their record up to 22-7 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Northland Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-71 loss against St. Thomas Episcopal on the 28th. St. Francis Episcopal has also already played their next match (against Rosehill Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
