Softball Recap: Marion Harding Presidents vs. Highland Fighting Scots
Marion Harding extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-4 in the process. They fell 8-4 to the Highland Fighting Scots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Scots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-6 on Wednesday.
As for Highland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.
For Highland's part, Lydia Shaffer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave Shaffer a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Dalaynie Hernandez was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Saylor Squires, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Marion Harding wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 13-8 victory against Ridgemont on the 11th. As for Highland, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-5 win against Centerburg on the 12th.
