Baseball Recap: Aurora East Comes Up Short

Aurora East had lost 18 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-12 to make it 19. They lost 14-0 to the South Elgin Storm. The Tomcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Storm from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for South Elgin, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For South Elgin's part, Colin Tuftedal tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Tuftedal has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ryan Mirante and Nathan Kmiec did most of the damage at the plate: Mirante went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Kmiec went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits Mirante has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Robertson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

While Aurora East had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
