Volleyball Game Preview: Amherst Broncos vs. Cross County Cougars

The Amherst Broncos will face off against the Cross County Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Amherst comes in on eight and Cross County on 13.

On Saturday, Amherst made easy work of Niobrara/Verdigre and carried off a 3-0 win.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Amherst took every set by at least 12 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-13, 25-6.

Breckyn Layne Veskerna had an outrageously good game as she had 24 digs. She has been hot, having posted 13 or more digs the last five times she's played. Kenna Hagan was another key player, getting eight assists and five aces.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Cross County duked it out with Morrill on Saturday. The Cougars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lions, sneaking past 3-2.

Cross County took Morrill into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 16-14.

Cross County's victory bumped their record up to 26-8. As for Amherst, their win bumped their record up to 25-5.

Everything went Amherst's way against Cross County in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, as Amherst made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
