Basketball Recap: Burke Takes a Loss

Burke was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 71-41 loss at the hands of the Gayville-Volin Raiders. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 71-35 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2025.

Burke's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Masen Hausmann, who shot 70% from the field on his way to 15 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks, and Brody Indahl, who posted 15 points. Indahl has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Ryggan Lambley also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Burke's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Gayville-Volin, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-4.

Coming up, Burke will venture away from home to challenge Platte/Geddes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will be up against the Black Panthers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.14 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Gayville-Volin, they will square off against Estelline/Hendricks at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
