Preview: Maret Frogs vs. Potomac School Panthers
Two dominant guards in Kennedy Austin and Sabrina Anderson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Maret Frogs will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Potomac School Panthers at 5:45 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Maret is ranked highly in their home state, and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Lions. Everything went Maret's way against the Lions as the Frogs made off with a 58-38 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Maret just coasted through the last quarter.
Austin was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Claire Mathews was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Meanwhile, Potomac School came tearing into Saturday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 78-43 victory over Flint Hill. Given Potomac School's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Huskies are ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Catherine Letendre and Anderson were among the main playmakers for Potomac School as the former scored 24 points along with five steals and the latter went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 5 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Letendre has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Sabrina Eldredge, who scored 11 points.
Maret has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Potomac School, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Maret have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Potomac School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Maret skirted past the Panthers 49-46 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Does Maret have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
