Basketball Recap: Dameyan Martin and Julius Miles Secure Win for Freeport

Freeport won the last time they faced Rocky Bayou Christian and things went their way on Friday too. The Freeport Bulldogs walked away with a 61-51 victory over the Rocky Bayou Christian Knights. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Freeport was led to victory by Julius Miles and Dameyan Martin. Miles dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 boards, while Martin went 6 of 9 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds. Miles has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Michael Taylor was another key player, putting up six points.

Despite the loss, Rocky Bayou Christian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Isaiah Gayle posted nine points along with six assists and five steals. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for Gayle. Another player making a difference was Daniel Knapp, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points.

Freeport has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Rocky Bayou Christian, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Freeport wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-55 win against Holmes County on the 14th. Rocky Bayou Christian has also already played their next matchup, a 55-53 defeat against Destin on the 14th.
