Baseball Game Preview: Scio Loggers vs. Santiam Christian Eagles

For the second straight game, Scio will face off against Santiam Christian. The Loggers are taking a road trip to take on the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Scio has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Santiam Christian will arrive with nine straight victories.

Scio fell victim to Santiam Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 11-0.

For Santiam Christian's part, Josh Riddle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Riddle has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Santiam Christian got a big performance out of Justin Oberfoell, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Tim Euhus was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Santiam Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Santiam Christian pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Scio, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.
