Baseball Game Preview: Wasatch Wasps vs. Springville Red Devils

For the second straight game, Wasatch will face off against Springville. The Wasps will head out on the road to take on the Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wasatch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.

Wasatch proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Springville 12-10. While the Wasps didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Braxton Faller made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Brown, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Wasatch's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Kyren Stocking was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Wasatch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Wasatch has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Springville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
