Basketball Recap: Hopewell Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Hopewell suffered their biggest defeat since February 8, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against the Nansemond River Warriors, falling 79-57. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Warriors are ranked 15th).

Nansemond River's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brittany Evans, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Evans is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordin Richardson, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 19 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Hopewell's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3. As for Nansemond River, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Hopewell will take on Petersburg at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Nansemond River, they will square off against Bethel at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Nansemond River has won five straight at home, while Bethel won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
