Cardinal Newman won the last time they faced South Fork and things went their way on Thursday too. The Cardinal Newman Crusaders came out on top against the South Fork Bulldogs by a score of 6-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.

Carl Calixte made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. What's more, he also gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Jaden Martin looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Finn Duran was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Malachi Rivas was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Cardinal Newman's record now sits at 2-0-1. As for South Fork, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cardinal Newman will take on Belen Jesuit at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Fork, they will square off against Vero Beach at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. South Fork's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Vero Beach's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
