Volleyball Preview: El Monte Lions vs. Marshall Eagles

After starting their season with nine straight games on the road, El Monte is finally coming home. They will look to take advantage of their home-court as they take on the Marshall Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, El Monte finally turned things around against Arroyo two weeks ago. They came out on top against the Knights by a score of 3-1.

El Monte was staring down a 1-1 deficit headed into the third set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 15-25, 25-17, 25-19.

Meanwhile, Marshall had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Everything went their way against the Knights as they made off with a 3-0 win.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-11, 25-21.

Lena Lao and Jaenna Sambilay were among the main playmakers for Marshall as the former had eight aces and four digs and the latter had three digs and three aces. The dominant performance gave Lao a new career-high in aces.

Marshall was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 24 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 14 consecutive contests.

El Monte's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-6. As for Marshall, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.
